Joe Kay grew up as an only child and was brought up in the Los Angeles area where opportunities fill the air. Throughout his youth he was influenced by his uncles who had no boundaries, they were all into different genres of music and it’s safe to say he inherited their diversity.
By the time he graduated from high school, his mind began to venture out and he found love for new sounds like soul music, deep house, and beat-oriented music. He was heavily influenced by the Stones Throw label and particularly everything that producer and beatmaker J Dilla created.
There is no doubt that music always held large components of his life, and it was only the beginning when he decided to put together a podcast mix of all his favorite tracks to share with other listeners. Joe Kay started putting them out under a medium called: lllVIBES, and the vibes were exactly that, ill. He was then able to obtain an immense response not only with local music lovers but people worldwide. That was the beginning of a limitless opportunity.
Within this time frame he was blessed to be able to build relationships with the artists whose music he featured within the lllVIBES podcasts. After a year, he connected with radio host Santana Westbrook of Truth Seekers Radio on KPFK Los Angeles. Santana took Joe Kay under his wing and showed him everything he needed to know to run his own successful radio show.
Not too long after that experience, Joe began to DJ and speak his ideas into existence. He has since then collaborated with many innovating blogs, artists, labels, and events worldwide. While he is still working on running and hosting his own radio show (Soulection Radio - Fridays 1-3 PM), Joe is also an undergraduate student where he is working towards a Communication Studies degree to better his future. Without a doubt there is much more paved in the path ahead of him and this is only the beginning. The possibilities are endless.
