Tokyo Police Club - Champ

News image

Champ by Tokyo Police Club   Let me start off by saying the new Tokyo Police Club album “Champ” was terrific. Everything you could expect from a new Tokyo Police album and a little more, made this album one of the series coolest. Looking at the artwork, just gives you that vibe that this one’s going to be a fun one. The artwork isn’t only unique and different but original as well. The artwork indicates that there is no serious vibe but that it’s as playful as the album itself, from its random objects to the vibrant colors. I’ve always been quite a fan of Tokyo Police Club but this album was just simply fantastic.   Their new album “Champ” elaborated more on the... Readmore

Parkway Drive - Deep Blue

Deep Blue by Parkway Drive ALBUM REVIEW PARKWAY DRIVE – DEEP BLUE By Cameron Owen   Parkway Drive is an Australian Hardcore band on Epitaph records.  They have been at the hardcore game since 2002 and with Deep Blue they chalk up their heaviest, and least generic release to date.  Deep Blue is their 3rd full-length album and the follow up to their 2007 release, Horizons.  With Horizons the band pushed for a little more technicality, and on Deep Blue they often give up speed and technicality for heavier, chunkier, slower, face-slamming breakdowns.  Some of the breakdowns are repetitive, but the current of the ocean is too, so maybe that’s the intention.   This album also marks Parkway’s first concept album, telling the narrative... Vampire Weekend - Contra

News image

"Contra" by Vampire Weekend If you haven’t heard of the band Vampire Weekend yet you must be living in a hole.  Don’t let the ultra-hipsters confuse you—just because the band is getting to be popular in the mainstream radio industry doesn’t mean that they suck.  Being a popular band doesn’t automatically make you suck.  Being really cool doesn’t automatically make you uncool.  Some people have this way of disliking a band after a bit because they start getting well known.  If this is a personality trait that you share, stop it because you’re missing out by not tilting an ear towards the direction of the radio that is playing “Horchata” on the radio.   Contra is Vampire Weekend’s second full-length album doesn’t stray too... Fever Ray by Fever Ray

News image

Fever Ray by Fever Ray A couple weeks ago I got this new CD at KBeach by Fever Ray and to be honest, I looked at it and put it to the side because I didn?t know who the artist was nor did I seem entranced by its cover in a way that made me want to play it. Finally, a few days ago I did---and I read the info on the cover, which helped me figure out that I totally messed up by not listening to it right away.Fever Ray is comprised of 1/2 of The Knife. In 2006 The Knife had a breakthrough album called Silent Shout that has true originality. I was lucky enough to see The Knife (which is comprised... Readmore

Four Tet - There is Love in You

News image

"There is Love in You" by Four Tet   It is hard to say how I got into Four Tet.  I used to have this thing where I would go into a local record store and grab a random CD that appealed to me.  Low and behold, combined with a record label that I knew had a history of artists that matched my tasted, I acquired my first Four Tet LP—“Everything Ecstatic”, in 2005.  To be honest, it was a little above my 22 year-old brain.  Yet it intrigued me. Hebden has a way of doing that.  It is as if one has to put his or her ear a little bit closer to the speaker and demand silence in order to hear all... Readmore
